ARE WE THE ONLY ONES?

So most wards seem to have a trunk n treat activity now. When these activities started, they were introduced as an alternative to traditional trick or treating door to door. Now it seems like most wards are holding the activity on another night, even a week before, like Katie's ward last week. But our ward still holds it on Halloween during the normal hours of trick or treating. Ours is exactly that, an alternative to the traditional. Ours is meant to keep the kids off the street and safe. What is your ward doing? And how do you feel about this as an alternative- is it enough for the kids or do you still feel like you need to take them out?

Be happy to know that we are having trunk or treat on Halloween night. Our kids will be at church too! And Ray and I will be serving up the punch as our share of activities

I've been on the activities committee several times and it seems like no one in the ward wants the trunk or treat on the actual day of Halloween. I'm not sure why. I think with younger kids the trunk or treat on halloween is a great idea, but maybe with older kids they wouldn't want to be stuck at church. But ours got over by 7:45 or so, and that's still plenty of time for the older kids to go out. I dunno, I've always lived in a pretty safe area so the whole "off the street and safe" doesn't really seem to be the issue. I guess I always went with my parents too.

Anyway, we had fun at our truck or treat last night, the kids got plenty of candy, and I wish we didn't have to go out again tonight! But we are going the dorms on campus, so we'll be safe and WARM!

We just got back from our ward activity and it was great. We had it at the church farm pool grass area this year for the first time instead of the church parking lot. It was a lot more secluded and felt real cozy and yet the kids got as much candy and goodies as if they had wlked for blocks and blocks. It was nice for the candy-givers too because we could give out more personalized treats instead of having to resort to hundreds of penny candies like in the past (in the past, at the church, carloads of kids were dropped off to attend our activities and walk the blocks around the church which are nicer houses).Like you said, Ashley, our whole event was over by 7:30-7:45. It was nice for everyone attending and I wish our wards would've done that when my kids were little.

Ours is on the Wednesday of the week of Halloween, but that's because it evolved out of being something that the youth put on for the little kids. That was our main Halloween activity and then James took the girls around the employee housing last night, which was just the right amount of trick or treating for our little ones (Well, maybe a bit too much for Amelia as you'll see when I finally get around to posting)
What a great idea to move it to the pool! I know what a problem y'all were having with it getting too big to handle and that sounds like a brillant solution!
